Grammatical Instances by the mitchell bros.

the mitchell bros. was a collaboration between poet Scott-Patrick Mitchell and artist/photographer Eric James Mitchell.

Collaboration redefines the social space. Each artistic language articulates the moment with its own dialect. A grapholexia of creative comprehension is formed, the symbol and glyph combined in new expression. This dialogue forms its own grammar, syntax and morphology.

In this project, two brothers tighten this creative language with a vernacular peculiar to themselves. Eric captured the urban landscape via Instagram on his iPhone while Scott-Patrick augmented reality with architectural poetic echoes. Together, The Mitchell Bros. present you with a map of Perth that summons austerity from the mundane, the overseen and abject becoming sacred while the complacent is abstracted. The result is a taut geography rife with audacity, humour, insight, humility and blatant horror.

Feel Perth seethe and purr beneath the tectonic folds of this New World disordered. This is your city, but unlike you’ve ever seen or heard it before. It has become both the whimper and the bang… but never, ever dull.
